Will Rogers Institute Donates $50,000 to NICU  August 30, 2010

The Will Rogers Institute recently donated $50,000 to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital to support the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The gift will allow Le Bonheur to purchase an advanced ventilator to assist premature babies who are unable to breathe on their own.

Le Bonheur Health Care Workers First in Country to Receive H1N1 Vaccination  October 5, 2009

Health care workers at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. were the first in the nation to receive the H1N1 vaccine on Monday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. The hospital received the first 100 doses of the nasal spray version of the vaccine and begin administering them to employees.

Study in Pediatrics Offers Strategy for Implementing Routine HIV Screening for Adolescents  October 1, 2009

A study published in the October issue of the journal Pediatrics suggests a strategy for implementing free, routine HIV screenings of adolescents recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Researchers at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital collaborated on the study which is the first to include adolescents.

Hootin' Andy's Safety Train Brain Station Opens at CMOM  September 8, 2009

A new interactive railroad safety exhibit featuring the voice of American folk singer Arlo Guthrie has opened at The Children's Museum of Memphis. Made possible by a generous gift from CN, one of the largest railroads in North America, and developed in partnership with Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center, the Safety Train Brain Station features a talking owl named Hootin' Andy, plus a recreated railroad crossing with gates, lights and a drop-down screen to teach children the importance of train safety.

Brain Tumor Program Expands Family-Centered Care  March 2, 2009

Families coming to Le Bonheur Children’s for brain tumor surgeries and treatment are tapping into a new resource – each other. A recent bedside reporting study on the hospital’s neuroscience floor gave credence to the belief that families need – and greatly benefit from – support from other families whose children share similar diagnoses. Art in the New Hospital Aims to Heal 

With Le Bonheur’s new facility set to open in 2010, an effort to fill its walls with soothing, inspirational artwork has begun. A team of artists, art teachers and art lovers – led by volunteer Linda Hill – will carefully select the artwork and make sure that all pieces fit within the vision for art in the new facility.

National Folic Acid Awareness Week 

The Memphis and Shelby County Health Department and the National Council on Folic Acid recognize January 8 - 14, 2007 as National Folic Acid Awareness Week. The purpose of this health observance is to reduce preventable birth defects by recommending that women of childbearing age have a daily intake of 400 micrograms of folic acid.
