Our Clinical Specialties

The team of on-staff physicians includes 115 board-certified pediatric subspecialists - in areas ranging from orthopedics to cardiology. Those physicians are complemented with hundreds of Le Bonheur nurses, many of whom are board certified in the field of pediatrics and subspecialties like critical care, neonatology and surgery.

Their expertise runs the gamut, and so does Le Bonheur's ability to care for our community's sickest children.

Allergy and Immunology At Le Bonheur, board-certified pediatric allergists and immunologists perform comprehensive laboratory testing to diagnose the child’s condition.	Anesthesiology Specially trained in pediatrics, our anesthesiologists are experienced in putting the child and the family at ease.
Behavioral Pediatrics Specialists work with children who have any developmental or behavioral disorder. We have several types of therapy and management, as well as community liaison services.	Cardiothoracic Surgery Our Cardiothoracic surgeons have the expertise to take care of most cardiac anomalies in patients from newborns to adults.
Clinical Nutrition The clinical nutrition staff at Le Bonheur is available to consult with your physician and your family about any special dietary needs your child might require.	Clinical Psychology Our Clinical Psychologists work together with many pediatric sub-specialties to ensure the most comprehensive care for children in the Mid-South.
Dentistry and Oral Surgery provide both primary and comprehensive preventive and restorative oral health care for infants through adolescence.	Dermatology Diagnostic, consultative and treatment services for pediatric skin disorders are available at Le Bonheur.
Developmental Pediatrics Our developmental pediatrics program helps children who have psychological issues.	Emergency Medicine
Endocrinology The endocrine system regulates moods, development, metabolism and sexual function.	Fetal Center The Fetal Center at Le Bonheur Children’s focuses on patients who have been referred from their primary obstetrician due to a situation involving the health and well-being of the fetus.
General Pediatrics Our pediatricians work closely with other pediatric specialists from other areas to look at your child as a whole and are aware of the ways in which different parts of the body and different systems interact.	General Surgery Our pediatric general surgeons provide treatment for infants and children with a wide variety of surgical problems, including many birth defects, accidental injury and burns, appendicitis, hernias, and many other problems.
Genetics Our physicians care for children with birth defects, inherited conditions, growth failure, metabolic disorders, developmental delay and at-risk situations.	Heart Institute About eight in every 1,000 children are born with a congenital heart defect. The only pediatric cardiovascular program in the Mid-South, the Heart Institute at Le Bonheur offers extensive services in this area.
Hematology Our hematology staff evaluates and treats patients with known or suspected blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, anemia, hemophilia and other coagulation disorders.	Infectious Disease Le Bonheur provides comprehensive care for children with infectious diseases. The group includes pediatric infectious disease specialists, nurses and a hospital infection control team.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center is a designated Level III C unit, providing comprehensive care to critically ill newborns within a family-centered environment.	Nephrology Our pediatric nephrology clinic treats children with all types of kidney problems, kidney stones, high blood pressure and abnormalities in body fluids, salt and/or acid balance.
Neuropsychology We provide comprehensive evaluations of patients with neurological impairment.	Neuroscience Institute The Neuroscience Institute at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center serves as the regional and national hub for the evaluation and treatment of neurological disorders in children and adolescents.
Ophthamology Pediatric ophthalmologists provide care for common eye disorders of childhood as well as comprehensive intervention for children with cancer, neuro-ophthalmic disorders, inherited and neonatal retinal disorders, anterior segment and glaucomatous diseases.	Orthopedics We work closely with the physicians of Campbell Clinic to provide comprehensive services to the children of our region.
Otolaryngology (ENT)	Our Centers of Excellence The Neuroscience Institute and the Cardiac Institute are dedicated to the treatment and research of pediatric conditions. Children from all over the region and country visit Le Bonheur each year to be treated at these Institutes.
Palliative Care The Palliative Care Program at Le Bonheur is a family-centered, culturally sensitive approach to the dignified care of infants and children with life-limiting illnesses.	Pathology and Laboratory Services Pathologists and clinical staff are specially trained to work with infants and children, and in detecting and interpreting test abnormalities and disease states that are specific to children.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit The Le Bonheur Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) combines advanced technology with exceptional, personalized care. The unit is staffed 24-hours-a-day by pediatric intensivists and provides special technologies.	Pedi-Flite A pioneer in the field of pediatric medical transport, Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center has provided specialized transport care of critically ill and injured children for more than 30 years.
Plastic Surgery Our plastic surgeons perform reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries for children and adolescents.	Psychiatry Our medical psychiatric unit provides a warm and structured environment designed to address the interaction of all factors affecting mental and physical illness in children and adolescents.
Pulmonology We provide multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient services for infants and children with acute and chronic respiratory problems.	Radiology The Medical Imaging Department provides our pediatric patients state of the art diagnostic medical imaging. We strive to meet all patient care needs.
Rehabilitation Services	Respiratory Care Services Respiratory therapists at Le Bonheur Children's are specially trained to meet the needs of pediatric respiratory patients.
Rheumatology Our rheumatologists are specially trained in pediatrics and are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and many other musculoskeletal diseases in children.	Transitional Care Unit The Transitional Care Unit is designed for children who no longer require the concentrated attention of the ICU but are not yet ready to be placed in a private hospital room or released home.
Transplant Surgery We perform liver, kidney and multi-organ transplants in association with surgeons at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and the Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute.	Urgent Care Our Urgent Care Centers are conveniently located throughout the city and provide immediate attention for illnesses or injuries that occur when your doctor's office is closed.
Urology Our Urology Department provides the only comprehensive pediatric urologic care in the Mid-South. Full urologic surgical and medical treatment is available.	Trauma Services Le Bonheur Children's serves as the region's only comprehensive pediatric trauma center, including multiple surgical and medical subspecialties focused on pediatric trauma care.
