  • Pulmonary sleep disorders

Our patients receive comprehensive care from our physicians, registered respiratory therapists, certified nurse practitioners, nutritionists and social workers. We are committed to providing outstanding patient care, instructing young physicians and nurses and researching pulmonary diseases and treatments.

Bronchoscopy Clinic
Children with recurrent pneumonia, chronic wheezing or other airway problems are often referred to the bronchoscopy suite for diagnosis and evaluation of underlying causes. Pediatric pulmonary specialists perform bronchoscopies to confirm the diagnosis and suggest an appropriate treatment plan. The procedure requires sedation, and children are carefully monitored post-procedure by the clinic staff.

Pulmonary Function Clinic
The pulmonary function test is a diagnostic and evaluation tool providing valuable clinical information to the pediatric pulmonologists at Le Bonheur. The test is conducted by a specially trained respiratory therapist and a registered nurse. In the clinic, children with chronic lung diseases are sedated so measurements of lung capacity can be determined.

Sleep Disorders Center
In conjunction with the Neuroscience Institute at Le Bonheur, pediatric pulmonologists perform sleep studies for children with sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders. The Sleep Disorders Center at Le Bonheur is the only pediatric sleep disorders clinic in Tennessee that is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

Multidisciplinary Care Team
You and your child will interact with many of these team members during your visit and in the future. After your child's initial visit, he or she will be assigned to a primary pulmonary attending physician. Your child may also be assigned to an advanced practice nurse or fellow.

Respiratory Care Services
Respiratory therapists at Le Bonheur Children's are specially trained to meet the needs of pediatric respiratory patients. Children require a different treatment approach than adults, and the respiratory therapists at Le Bonheur use special techniques to minimize the stress of respiratory treatments and procedures your child may receive during their hospitalization.

Camp Wezbegon
Camp Wezbegon is a fun-filled, overnight summer camp specifically designed for children ages 9-13 who have asthsma. Camp Wezbegon offers outdoor activities such as swimming, nature study, hiking and a rope course. For most children with asthma, poor health makes it impossible to attend other summer camps. While the focus of camp is to have fun, the children also attend a daily class on asthma management. Volunteer physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists provide 24-hour medical supervision. A committee selects the campers, and services are provided free of charge. The camp is made possible through generous funding from the Seabrook family.
