Respiratory therapists at Le Bonheur Children's are specially trained to meet the needs of pediatric respiratory patients. Children require a different treatment approach than adults, and the respiratory therapists at Le Bonheur use special techniques to minimize the stress of respiratory treatments and procedures your child may receive during their hospitalization.
All Le Bonheur respiratory therapists hold a degree in Respiratory Care and are licensed by the State of Tennessee and by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Many therapists are also credentialed with the Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty certification. At Le Bonheur, respiratory therapists continue their training with various therapies specifically designed for the treatment of children.
Where Respiratory Therapists Can Be Found
Le Bonheur's respiratory therapists can be found anywhere and everywhere throughout the hospital. Below, are many of the areas in the hospital you may see a respiratory therapist at work:
Along with the traditional respiratory care therapies, a patient may require more specialized treatments. Our therapists are trained to provide and manage these treatments. Many of these treatments are unique to Le Bonheur's standard of care for pediatric patients.
We utilize conventional ventilation as well as high frequency oscillating ventilation for critical care needs.
We are able to implement nitric oxide in conjunction with ventilation to increase blood flow to the lungs.
The Transitional Care Unit specializes in treating patients with long term respiratory needs.
Emergency Services therapists assist with and treat with emergency respiratory cases.
Several respiratory therapists are trained in ECMO and our Pedi-Flite team staffs a registered respiratory therapist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Therapists volunteer their time for Camp Wezbegon, a yearly camp for pediatric asthma patients.
