Urgent Care
When your child is faced with an illness or injury, it can be difficult to know where your child can receive the best care available. The most important resource you have for your child’s care is your pediatrician. If your child does need medical attention, your pediatrician can help you choose the best options for their specific needs. Because your pediatrician knows your child’s history and current situation, he or she can help you make the best choice and get the best care available.
By getting to know your pediatrician and taking your child in for regular office visits, your pediatrician can become a valuable resource to you and your child. Advantages of having a pediatrician include:
- High quality of care for your child’s specific needs
- Continuity of care from birth through teenage years
- Knowledge of your child’s history and needs
- Less waiting time for you and your child
After discussing your child’s needs with your pediatrician, he or she will advise you on the best way to receive care for your child’s illness or injury. Common options include:
Pediatrician Office Visit – Often your pediatrician will be able to assess your child’s situation in an office setting. Depending on the nature of the illness or injury, your pediatrician may request to see your child right away or at a later date that is more convenient for you. Many pediatric offices also have night and weekend hours for your convenience.
A visit to an Urgent Care Center – If your child’s illness or injury occurs after hours and is minor but requires immediate attention, your pediatrician may refer you to an Urgent Care Center. The Le Bonheur Urgent Care Centers are located throughout the city and are available on nights and weekends.
