Memphis, Tenn. – Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital received the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine via FedEx on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 8:41 a.m. and began to offer the vaccine to frontline health care workers at 11:23 a.m. First to receive the vaccine: long-time and well-respected Le Bonheur and UTHSC Division Chief of Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine and Medical Director of School and Mobile Health Dr. Cynthia Cross.
Le Bonheur is honored to be among the first children’s hospitals in the country to receive this shipment and will continue to offer the vaccine to staff and doctors as more vaccine becomes available -- including the Moderna vaccine in the coming weeks.
This step is critically important in the fight against COVID-19, but the fight must continue. Please encourage family and friends to wash hands, wear masks and practice social distancing in order to stop further spread of COVID-19 as we await more doses of vaccine.
