Our hematology staff works closely with the staff at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the faculty of The University of Tennessee Health Science Center to research and treat children with known or suspected blood disorders like sickle cell disease, anemia, hemophilia and other coagulation disorders.
Working together, outpatient procedures are performed at St. Jude. In addition to a pediatric hematologists, our team includes nurse specialists, psychologists, social workers and genetic counselors. Research and education are important components of the program, and St. Jude offers counseling and education to families of children with sickle cell and individuals with sickle cell traits. Outreach screening, counseling and educational services are also provided to at-risk populations.
Le Bonheur provides inpatient care treatment for children with sickle cell disease. Certified nurses also perform apheresis therapy, typically at the bedside.
