Tuberous Sclerosis: Building a Complex Program

Our multidisciplinary approach has made our program one of best pediatric nephrology programs in the country. We are recognized by U.S. News & World Report for pediatric kidney disorders.

We treat children with all kidney problems, kidney stones, high blood pressure and abnormalities in body fluids, salt and/or acid balance.

Our program treats about 1,600 children per year on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Our multidisciplinary team of pediatric specialists includes nurses, dietitians and social workers specializing in nephrology, dialysis and kidney transplant.

Our physicians are all board-certified pediatric nephrologists. We provide expert care and continually improved treatments through research efforts and training of future pediatric nephrologists. We participate in North American Pediatric Renal Trials and Collaborative Studies (NAPRTCS), the leading organization of hospitals committed to improving kidney care.

We also have a 100% patient-survival rate for kidney transplants in the past two years.

Dialysis Program

The Le Bonheur dialysis unit was the first pediatric dialysis unit in the region. Our dialysis program provides both inpatient care and outpatient pediatric dialysis. The dialysis program is led by a medical director and staffed by physicians and specially-trained nurses focused on the care of children with dialysis.

Transplant Program

The pediatric kidney transplant program at Le Bonheur is among the most active and successful programs in the region. Both the pediatric nephrologists and general surgeons work together to provide comprehensive care before, during and after a transplant.

Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Center of Excellence

Le Bonheur’s Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Center of Excellence is a leader in the clinical care and research of TSC, a genetic disorder that causes tumor growth in organs throughout the body. Le Bonheur’s TSC program is designated by the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance as a Tuberous Sclerosis Center of Excellence

Our multidisciplinary clinic gives patients access to pediatric experts in nephrology, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, dermatology, developmental pediatrics, pulmonology and urology in one setting -- from childhood into adulthood. The clinic is led by physicians with decades of experience treating TSC and working on the cutting edge of new treatments and therapies.
