MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Pediatric cardiac surgeon Danielle Gottlieb Sen, MS, MD, MPH, has joined the Heart Institute team at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Dr. Gottlieb Sen comes to Le Bonheur from Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she was an assistant professor of surgery, a congenital heart surgeon, director of pediatric cardiac surgery research and director of pediatric surgery quality and outcomes. Dr. Gottlieb Sen is one of 22 women congenital heart surgeons in the United States.
"I am excited to have Dr. Danielle Gottlieb Sen joining our team at the Heart Institute at Le Bonheur,” said Dr. Bret Mettler, co-director of the Heart Institute and chief of pediatric cardiac surgery at Le Bonheur. “Having previously worked with Danielle for five years, I have seen firsthand how talented she is and the high quality of care she can provide our patients. Adding her to our team will help patients and families coming to Le Bonheur with cardiac needs for years to come.”
Before Johns Hopkins, she was at Vanderbilt Monroe Carell Children’s Hospital as an instructor of surgery for pediatric cardiac surgery and at the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. Dr. Gottlieb Sen completed her General Surgery training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Cardiothoracic Surgery training at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University, and her Congenital Cardiac Surgery Fellowships at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Gottlieb Sen is certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery in cardiothoracic surgery and congenital heart surgery.
She serves as a member of several professional societies, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Heart Association, Women in Thoracic Surgery, Southern Thoracic Surgery, Association for Academic Surgery and Society of University Surgeons.

I am also really looking forward to seeing the impact that my research work, building monitoring devices for infants and children, can have in the local community.”
Dr. Gottlieb Sen’s practice is caring for infants, children and adults with congenital heart disease. She and Dr. Mettler perform the entire spectrum of operations, including newborn surgery, and operations for heart failure, including mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation.
