Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine that causes the spine to progressively curve. This can result in changes to the shoulders, ribs, chest wall and waist of your child. Most often it is recognized in boys and girls during their adolescent growth between the ages of 10 to 16. Depending on the size of the curve when first recognized, and how much growing your child has remaining. You and your spine surgeon will discuss a specific treatment plan, which may include observation with routine rechecks, bracing or potentially a discussion about surgical options.

Our primary goal is preventing your child’s scoliosis from progressing or getting worse over time. Small curvatures have a low risk of getting larger over time, while larger curves tend to continue progress even when your child is done growing.
