The UTHSC pediatric cardiology fellowship program is a medium-sized fellowship program that takes three fellows per year. It is based at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, the Mid-South’s only quaternary care children’s hospital with a wide catchment area.
Le Bonheur's Heart Institute is highly ranked and acclaimed in the nation. It provides all pediatric cardiology services for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a premier research center for pediatric cancer and hematological diseases, and Regional One Health where approximately 5,000 babies are delivered each year. The cardiology division has experienced tremendous growth and expansion with a focus on interventional cardiology, cardiomyopathy, cardio-oncology, electrophysiology, cardio-genetics and adult congenital heart disease.
The goal of the fellowship program is to provide trainees with an extensive experience in the art and science of medicine to achieve excellence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients with congenital heart disease, acquired heart disease, cardiomyopathy and arrhythmias. This includes training in state-of-the-art practice in general inpatient and outpatient pediatric cardiology with opportunities to begin a focus on specialty areas within the field. The program includes training and experience in research methods and design and publication of research findings. The curriculum promotes evidence-based care, continuous quality improvement and lifelong learning.
