When a child is hospitalized, keeping up with school can provide structure, a distraction from illness and a focus on a future outside of the hospital.
Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital provides education services to support children enrolled in school, grades K-12. Our goal is to help children stay connected to school assignments and curriculum while at the hospital. School services are scheduled around medical tests and therapies, considering a child’s medical condition, academic needs and ability to engage. A licensed teacher will work with children to provide this academic support.
Services Include:
- Bedside or classroom education
- IEP and 504 Plan assistance
- Homebound services support
- Homeschool information
- GED and/or HiSET assistance
School Services Criteria:
- The caregiver provides verbal or written consent for participation.
- The patient is enrolled in a K-12 school program.
- The patient’s expected length of stay is five days or longer.
